A look at the BCS Mess
December 5th 2011 23:29
Here's a look at those teams who were picked for certain BCS bowls, versus those who should of been.
Alabama- 2nd in SEC West. 11-1 on the season, only loss to top-ranked LSU, 9-6 in overtime. Alabama beat Penn State, Florida, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Mississippi State and Auburn on the season. They also beat North Texas, Georgia Southern and Kent State, three weak teams.
Oklahoma State- Won the Big 12. 11-1 on the season, only loss in double overtime to Iowa State, 37-31. Oklahoma State beat Louisiana- Lafayette who at 8-4 is heading to a bowl. They also beat Tulsa, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Baylor, Kansas State, Texas Tech. Two weak teams include Arizona, and Kansas, both victims of Oklahoma State's offense
This explains why I feel the Cowboys deserve the spot.
Now to the Sugar Bowl mess.
Michigan-10-2 on the season, finished 13th in the BCS. Second place in the Big Ten Legends division. Michigan lost to Iowa and Michigan State. They beat Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio State, Northwestern, Notre Dame and San Diego State. Weak wins include: Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Big Ten conference dwellers- Minnesota and Purdue.
Virginia Tech- 11-2 on the season, finished 11th in the BCS. Was first place in the ACC- Coastal Division. Lost to Clemson twice this year, once in regular season and conference title game. A weak schedule during the regular season, includes wins over Virginia, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Miami, North Carolina, Marshall and Arkansas State. Also victories over Appalachian State, and conference dwellers- Duke and Boston College.
Boise State- 11-1 on the season. Finished seventh in the BCS and second in the Mountain West. Lost to TCU who finished 18th in the BCS. Boise State beat Georgia, Toledo, Tulsa, Nevada, Air Force, San Diego State, and Wyoming all bowl teams. Weak wins include: New Mexico, UNLV, Colorado State, and Fresno State.
Kansas State- 10-2 on the season. Finished eighth in the BCS and second in the Big 12. Kansas State lost to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. They beat Baylor, Miami, Missouri, Texas A&M, Texas, and Iowa State. Other wins include: Eastern Kentucky, Kent State, and Kansas.
Baylor- 9-3 on the season. Finished 12th in the BCS and third in the Big 12. Baylor lost to Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Kansas State. They beat TCU, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Iowa State. Other wins include: Kansas, Rice and Stephen F. Austin.
Boise State by regards of their BCS ranking deserves the nod over both Michigan and Virginia Tech. Kansas State, you could say should of gone over both teams. Just an odd move by the Sugar Bowl.
Heisman finalists just got named. Those include one cornerback, two running backs and two quarterbacks. Alabama running back Trent Richardson, and Wisconsin running back Montee Ball got named finalists. Baylor quarterback Robert Griffith and Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck got picked. Plus LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu will attend the ceremony.
