A Kitchen in Progress
April 21st 2009 11:23
In case you are wondering why there haven't been many updates here, it's because the rain is still falling and the work has stalled.
We still have a pool where the house will hopefully one day stand and despite attempts from our builder to drain it, it is truly a 'no go' zone.
So I thought that I would talk about my dream kitchen and show the plans of it in progress. I had hopes of funding it with my share portfolio. At the time I thought that, the economy was still in its boom phase and I was dreaming of granite benchtops and slate flooring with blanco stainless steel appliances.
Now the boom has bust and the crunch is...well....crunching and the portfolio is looking very emaciated. I'm wondering if chip board comes in a granite look and if linoleum really is warmer on the feet than slate. What's the point of stainless steel anyway, it just collects kids fingerprints? I'm sure second hand appliances are just as practical as new ones.
Seriously though, it is nice to dream and although we are far off from fitting out the kitchen yet, I can't help but wander through Joyce Mayne and The Good Guys comparing prices and becoming intimate with names like Miele and Ilve. When I look at colours I imagine them on the kitchen wall or as a benchtop shade.
I want a HUGE pantry. Bigger than in the drawings shown as I have plans to squirrel away tins and tins of food and all my jars of jams and chutneys that I plan to make with fresh fruit and vegetables grown straight from my permaculture garden.
And as the rain continues to fall, I comfort myself with the reality that a girl can dream!
