A french fry is just well...a french fry

I don't know why but people seem to get into these petty, little time wasting discussions that seem just to take up time and energy. You know the ones I mean the irritating conversations about "nothing" that give personal preferences of the speakers. I was walking past some co-workers some time back and they stopped me and asked me which was the better french fry! These people were talking about french fries and who has the best tasting fry of them all.
Honestly, I must have poor taste buds because there is no difference to me between Wendy's, McDonalds, KFC and Burger King french fries. I wonder if I just work with people who don't have anything better to do with their time than to sit around and discuss the taste of french fries.
On the subject of french fries, I always wanted to know on a serious note at what point in the cooking does an irish potato change nationalities and become a french fry? Just curious.
