A Corporate Cacophony ...and Time for the Dalai Lama too?
June 14th 2007 07:10
Well, after three months of waiting, today was finally the day, I got to go and listen to this man speak the truths of life…
Prelude to Peace...
...but not before I deal with a very ridiculous personal situation ... *lol* ..glad I am going to relax…*rolling eyes* It seems that the people liked my selection criteria and rang me at 10am this morning, asking if I am available for a phone interview this afternoon at 2pm!
What…today? Oh NO, not today…you’ve got to be kidding me? I’ll be in the back of a full car, on my way to the entertainment centre… I’m spending the afternoon with the Dalai Lama ... for God’s Sake! Oh you say you can’t delay it.
Oh, I see, I’ve only got one chance at this?
Tomorrow will be too late… well since you put it like that… and because I’d hate to let myself down and get into a self loathing match with myself tomorrow morning for not having given it a go… um… how about …um …you ring me at 2pm, but only if you don’t mind ringing my mobile and talking to me with a lot of background noise going on in the car … hey, I’ll try anything once.
… the intrusion into my life has already begun and I suddenly have uneasy visions of Hitler marching into Poland!
At 2pm, southbound on the Bruce Highway, there are four executives firing their 10 magical questions at me on tele-conference/party mode, over my mobile - as I ride to town in the back of the car, my friends all embarrassed and trying to act like they can’t hear anything at all.. I told them to chill and keep talking, not to worry about it, as the cards would fall as they would fall. Yeah.. right..
.
I mean four hours notice …come on!
The end result was that I somehow managed to stammer, splutter, um and arrr…my way to impressing the ‘phone review panel,’ that I wasn’t a complete imbecile and win my way forward, to a face-to-face interview next Tuesday..
I think that's good.. because the next hoop is that after recieveing an email mission; drum roll ....I must now create a pamphlet aimed at a target market and Media release for a non-event (which I have to make up) to take with me to the interview, promoting the organisation that I still don't know that much about... is it me or is this getting wierd? ... I feel like Hercules on his ten tests...
I mean, what's the world coming to these days?
Sheesh, you step out of the work force for 16 years and it’s like the bloody Soviet Union during the cold war (16 years ago), when you resurface?
I have to laugh though, because contrasted against what I was actually trying to do at the same time? .. well, you’ve gotta laugh Spirit sure threw that one at me … *wiping brow* and I’m happier for having tried, anyway… and hopefully not bi-polar from the experience?
~oOo~
Sooo, Anywho….I finally finished my first telephone interview, ever and I’verun to manoeuvred myself to my seat, dead square centre in the middle of the biggest arena in Queensland… switched my mobile off and looked around …refocusing on where I was and what I was doing there…I have lost the others somewhere in the gi-normous crowd. OMG I haven’t seen so many people since I saw Billy Graham and Elton John in Wembley. (Not together mind..*lol*) I have half an hour to spare .. and I got to thinking… always a dangerous thing for me.
You know, I thought… not since the demise of Jesus, Krishna and Prince Siddharta Gautama himself…and beside the Pope himself … the Dalai Lama is the highest spiritual living embodiment and representative of compassion, love peace and light, we have on this earth plane today? … no wonder he laughs so much.
Lost in that thought … time passes and my friends arrive. Within 10 minutes, a very miniature Dalai Lama steps out onto an equally small stage… people prostrating themselves everywhere… and we’re off...
As I relax and allow his words to pass through me, I begin to understand the growing number of people who believe that Jesus took some teaching from this philosophy during his own wandering and learning … the message is really the same.
I could quote a Biblical text for practically every philosophical mandate stated today, and founded in 500BCE, I would have to add that Buddhism came first. It’s lack of ownership of God, placing Heaven far above us... and messages of compassion and impermanence, timeless. Soaking into my every pore.
So I sat there thinking some more … toying with the idea that Jesus may well have got some of this good oil from the Sanskrit records, as Biblical Conspiracy Theorists claim. Then like Jonathon Livingston Seagull, He decides to go back to Mecca and reveal it…Bad move… Can really imagine Him, now, trying to communicate, peace, love and compassion to the Arabic, Jewish and Roman Empires of the day...cue Monty Python...
The Dalai Lama relates how he wrote and met George Bush, about not invading Iraq, '...but encouraged him to go softly, softly with peace as the intention …" Hrmpfh there's a larf... has anything changed?
The Dalai's recounting of that event?
Absolutely, hilarious…
All Buddhist monks and nuns I have met are really emotive, and have the most wonderful sense of humour. I guess they know that you cannot rise above polarity consciousness (us and them) without it. You have to look at things holistically in order to remain balanced, right?
Anyway, I’m still sitting there lost in thought, thinking … good balance is essential if you are going to speak sense in the first place, isn’t it? You cannot utter a sound if you are still in the ‘us and them’ mode?
Simplicity in our lifestyle is second. In this sense the Dalai Lama’s message is clear and he does not live amongst opulence, that’s for sure. *lol* I don’t know if you know this, but those little Buddhist prayer flags that you see flying in the wind, carrying the words of our prayers to heaven? Well they are left to tatter and tear and be weathered by nature, to also remind us every day of the impermanence of this lifetime. It’s very motivational.
Compassion : put yourself in the other persons shoes and walk a mile, then speak.
But today, it’s the way the Dalai speaks of the young generation and the 21st century. Of how they have a real chance to take this century into a truly peaceful millennium, with no more wars… not through polarity consciousness, violence and ignorance … but through dialogue.
DIALOGUE…
Lm(ears)o … I immediately think of Orble and how truly advanced all of us are in here... *erghm* from the ability to practice dialogue without the actual implementation of physical retaliation. *lol* or hatred …*ergm* yeah right…
/seriously/ I think I have learned heaps from being in orble and through nothing but dialogue, haven’t you?
Conclusion : The idea of a World at Peace, still threatens many and we are being brainwashed to violence by many.
Nothing new there.
***
The entire hour-and-a-half was magical and relaxing and funny, oh, he is funny.
There are many wonderful messages in a talk delivered by this fellow… too many to recount… But I wanted to highlight the Dalai's answer to the question of how to forgive someone who has caused you great pain and suffering.
He says, the best way is to detach the person from the action... Hmm, now where have I heard that before?
Here’s how it works. : You oppose the action, but you do not hate the person who has administered it…you just don’t go there …into hate mode, within yourself. You just need to remove yourself from the toxic situation.
The reasoning is simple enough. If you are motivated from a sense of compassion, you would step aside to stop that person from attacking you, because their hatred is destroying them. You are motivated to ignore them and move away through compassion. I like the simplicity of it myself, because you also stop them from making you submit, so they don’t hate themselves even more...and cause you to hate yourself too.
You oppose the action, not the person. You are free to love.
So, simple, so true… and I was again reminded of everything in the Bible, and many practical Hindu teachings. However, I have to agree with the Dalai, when he stated that religion is not the best way to attain world peace, as it tends to annihilate the very thing it tries to promote, because once we decide to gain world peace through religion, we then have to decide …which religion should do it?
As someone who is curious and open to life, it was worth seeing and listening to this 14th incarnation of perhaps, one of the oldest remaining truth sayers on the planet today … just perhaps, once ... in any lifetime.
Prelude to Peace...

Yes, it just all sort of clicked into place as I set there listening to him speak about it … and I thought it worth passing on … maybe help a few with their own path, you never know.
Now I’m off to create that bloomin’ pamphlet… and so it goes… no doubts I'll be visiting for some of your sage wisdom by 2pm tomorrow...

I heard a woman say on teevee today; 'my daddy taught me while i was growing up, that the most important thing in life, is Love'.
I smiled a lot reading this, I'm glad you didn't abandon your plans, people can be flexible right?
guess what! (what?) I have news on the job front too, but I'll get to that soon..
first things first, LOVE
I know the word is overused, but i truly believe the true essence of Love (that word so many fear) can heal the world.
Job front News ~ I too must have done well on my 'Key Selection Criteria' .. because I have an interview on Monday, at the local Community House (the job i want, not the job i didn't get). I'll let you know how it went.
All the very best for your Interview on Tuesday Lilla, be your fine self, relax and interview THEM a little too

This is why he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize ('89? '90?)... for words of practical wisdom like this;
There are many many reasons why the 14th Dalai Lama (the Kundun) is the kind of spiritual and political (in his case not an oxymoron) the world needs. Now.
I love this whole post!!
...it's very personal Lilla...don't really know what I mean by that...maybe that I feel like I can actually hear you talk and we're having a conversation or...I don't know..!
And congratulations!!! re the interview.
Perhaps you should nominate this as the Orble motto;
Comment by David
Did the Dalai Lama ridicule Christ? Or counsel his followers to? And what would he think of his 'followers' doing that? Would he approve?

…ain’t that the truth… not always easy to find…but the truth. I believe there is nothing else… I guess that’s why this job thingy is shaking me up a little, because it's making consider more material things, after all we live in the material world, right? as for your news…Ooh I am so chuffed and delighted and boomerang on the interview.
Thank you so much for the great advice… I will do my best, that’s for sure.. and I also wish you every success…
I agree, the world needs love, peace and co-operation more than anything… me too.

I love that you love this post Dusk… and I was going to say, that any Jedi would… but you’ve pre-empted my comment… *lol*
I think I understand what you are saying, about it being personal, because it is, and perhaps because we are so close in our energies and beliefs ...or simply because Aquamades are so often left to deal with ridiculous personal situations? *chuckling* maybe Tammy can confirm that to...
Thank you about the interview… creating the brochure first..*cringe* /seriously/ I'm always like this... a basket case until I start and throw myself into it, then it's okay... it's a bad habit and I am working really hard to purge it from my being ... after all, it is what the job entails… and I do enjoy presentation and creating pretty pages, partly why I’ve been orbling as you know.
Perhaps a good time to thank you for your wonderful support, then, now and in the future too. I hope my adventures into this territory are helping you in your own adventures
I think it is a 'must motto,' especially for Orblears ..*lol*
Much affection,

In going with the flow of your post - coz this one is powerpacked! - I can just imagine you hurtling down the motorway (highway? road? sorry still getting used to the English that is Aus!) and getting your call - much strength to you - I don`t think I could have done it! (Although does their presence give you a boost of confidence?)
I`m very nosy so I`m going to ask - you don`t need to answer should you feel it is none of my business (I won`t take offense!) - is it Charity Fundraising that you are going for?
Ok onto the Dalai Lama now - how jealous am I? I tried so hard to get tickets for this after having the disappointment of my Melbourne encounter dashed - they were selling tickets on eBay for both the Zoo and Brisbane events and I missed out on both ~slaps forehead~ I was WELL disappointed.
I saw an interview with the Dalai Lama on TV the other night and I was SO drawn to the fact at how much he laughs - I didn`t feel like such an idiot at the fact that I laugh at everything myself.
And the fact that he reckons in his next life he will come back as a mosquito - he is lovely and I am really disappointed that I missed out on his visit.
In reference to Buddhism he was saying that it has now become like a new fashion trend.
He says (as does Dusk) that this is a philosophy as well as a religion, but that we should not be too ready to give up our religion to be Buddhist because it asks a lot - rather we can listen and emply the principles and accept them in our everyday life - there is nothing worse than someone trying to force their relgion on us.
Loved the journey with you Lilla thank you for sharing as I especially wanted to be there myself!

Dusk has already said it well, but in my own words …
(1) Gosh, No… quite the opposite. At the monastery where I visit from time to time, they talk of Christ often and His special mission. No doubts there, okay?
(2) That also answers the second question. However, the Dalai does talk out politically against world leaders who promote violence and war, and usually gets a laugh there too.
(3) NO, about ridiculing other religions.. it is impossible if your intention is coming from a place of love and compassion towards your fellow man, through this philosophy. It could not exist on its own axiom if it did.
If anything Buddhists use Christ as an example of the embodiment of compassion, with His teaching : Love thy neighbour … the two are the same.
What also struck me as relevant here was the phrase: God hates the sin, not the sinner. The same as the Dalai saying : You must oppose the action, not the person. You are free to love. What do you think?
(4) NO he would not approve at all, nor encourage it in any way.
Hope that’s clearer now David?

*l-ing ol* at your comment.
That’s a lot of questions.. um … let me see. The organisation I am trying out for, does rely on donations and charity events, as well as govt. funding. I am not going in as the charity fund raiser par se… more the PR and media co-ordinator of the events, that raise profile and the charity? LIke I said, I haven't had the interview yet.
*ha ha* Yes, I drew strength from them, but fears too…*chuckle* and one woman had an interview today and said she felt she’d breeze through it after watching me struggle ..lovely *rolling my eyes* I must catch up and see how she went...
Can I ask why you ask?
I am really sorry to hear you were trying to get tickets and couldn’t make it. You will next time. I was really lucky, a friend got mine for me.
Thrilled, I could give you a glimpse, at least. I laughed so much, because the logic is so simple and straightforward, its' silly.. and you laugh at yourself mostly for letting it get really complex in your mind.
Ash, to me, Budhism is the next logical step for many of us who don’t want any more religion, yet want confirmation of the truths we know to be self evident, from time to time.
In fact, I’ve just noticed the ads that Google are using to promote this post and am appalled by the titles of some of them disavowing Christ. Sorry folks, I don’t have the choice in that one… even with Mature Content at the top of the bloomin’ page!
Glad I could take you there Ash, next time we’ll go together.
Yes the rain has begun to drizzle here too… but the windows are shut firmly against that chill, so not much smelling going on… going to watch “Little Miss Sunshine.”
Have a wonderful evening my friend.
Happy travels,

but if I could avoid that acidic reaction internally, it'd be even better.
...so hard to do sometimes. I've had to remove myself from familial situations altogether to avoid this. NOw somewhat vindicated in my actions, thanks to a few good souls, I know I don't hate them. And, when they are ready to stop playing stupid games and getting over petty jealousies ... well then I'm still here and we can pick up where we left off.
I don't miss them either... nor do my children (who are better off because they aren't confused)...and it's incredible what Spirit will throw at you by way of replacements, isn't it? Almost immediately that person is replaced by another who is exactly the way you need them to be...in my case to preserve harmony in my home at all costs!
Wendi, my philosophy is ... why sweat it?
And.. I'm not ruling out the other family either ... and the possibility that we have no contact because I need to develop those weaknesses within myself. Sometimes things just don't work in families, do they?
But, today I'm hopeful that they do for you .. we'll you're probably already there and my thoughts are with you...
Good Luck.

*lol* hmm... let me see if I can sketch you a picture of it ...
I'm at a crossroads in my life - as many are at my age - it's something to do with being hormonal... things get a bit fuzzy here and there.. so please don't be expecting too much sense, okay? I'll let you know as I go...
I have so many skills I can utilise, it almost seems unfair... but, I also have moral ethics and ideals that don't fit the modern, consumer driven corporate scene ...
So the idea is to put them all together somehow and find the compromise with myself?
The thing about being curious in mind, is that it is open to all possibilities... hopefully those possibilities lead us back home to love, when sometimes we are stumbling about dazed and confused by the universes latest little challenge - which we've probably cooked up for ourselves? Wouldn't surprise me...we all make mistakes, thank God
Hope that helps you sketch my brand of insanity ...
Thank you for asking

Oh, I just love the story of the job interview, and I had to chuckle over your 'enthusiasm' for going for it.
I saw the Dalai Lama speak in Melbourne, though on the Tibet/China situation. You really described him exactly I thought, and the photos really expressed that. His humour is something I was very taken by.
Thanks for sharing some of the points he made, especially on forgiveness.

He has lost a lot in life and my experience is that you cannot possibly survive all that he has, without humour .. that’s what I like, a lack of pomp and ceremony, but not respect and wonder.
That would have been a really interesting talk Candice?
I think it’s time that China gave it back to them. In Envirowarrior I’ve outlined a the Chinese plan to stop mining in Tibet.. there I mention too that I hope that while they’re being reconciliatory, perhaps they could hand Tibet back too.
I really believe it will happen one day, hopefully in my life.
I watched the Berlin Wall come down, who knows…?

Thanks, I'm trying my best to stay warm - this is about the time of year every year when my hubby and I contemplate moving up north!!
The talk in Melbourne was preceded by a lecture by an academic about war. Very interesting. Anyway, he made the point that Tibet is in the best position it's ever been in to have peace restored. He said that because China is heading towards entering the world economy, it may be willing to give up Tibet if there's enough international outcry to thwart that. I thought it was an important point.
It's really shocking what China has done to Tibet. Friends of mine went to Tibet and said the Chinese live well while the Tibetans are living in absolute poverty - people defacating in the streets, the works!

Forgive the delay in responding, I’m still not getting all my notifications …Grrrr!
..and for the record, I don’t know (this year) if you’d be warmer here… just kidding, I’m sure it’s still better than were we came from too, up on the SE NSW snowline…*shivering* brrr! I hope you’ve gotten warm in your neck of the woods.
Thanks for the info on Melbourne, it is very interesting. I also bumped into a lady who saw him at Australia Zoo a few hours before we saw him at the Entertainment Centre…
I too have been up the Himalaya trail and have seen what you speak of… in the south they persecute the Mongolians… all simple people who just want to lead simple lives… and now they threaten to pollute us all…
Hopefully enough people will wake up and realise these atrocities (here, right under our noses) and help put them right.
Sending you some weakish, semi-warm sunshine and a
