A Blog About Fantasy Literature and Writing
January 6th 2009 19:26
I have always been a lover of fantasy literature, ever since being introduced to the genre via The Chronicles of Narnia as a little kid. Since then, I've decided that I want to be a writer, and that among other things, I really want to write fantasy. I have a couple novels in the works; if they ever get finished, however, remains to be seen.
I've taken a scholarly interest in Fantasy Literature: what is Fantasy, why is it important (and it is), what makes "good" Fantasy literature, and what is the difference between 'commercial' and 'literary' fantasy.
So in this blog I'll be doing a number of things: I'll be speaking about what defines fantasy and its various subgenres, what I believe is quality fantasy, talking about my own fantasy and the fantasy of others (new and old), and talking about specific topics in fantasy such as world-building and magic.
The first official post will come tomorrow, when I will speak briefly about what I believe defines Fantasy, and a little bit about its various roots in older traditions, the difference between it and other genres (like mythology or science-fiction), and its effect on life: mine specifically, and the culture in general.
Until then, have a nice day and feel free to lose yourself in the worlds of fantasy.
