I was just reading the New Scientist and they have run an article this month highlighting James Lovelock's extreme veiws for where we are all headed in the future.
Here is a link to a post I did on him a while back.
Scary stuff.
Really Long Link
Ill be back to Orble more regularly soon.

There is a great show on the ABC called the hollow men. Not being an avid follower of politics I assumed incorrectly this show was a fictional comedy.
Little did I know it is actually the way things work. Apologies in advance for making light of a very serious issue, however if I don't laugh I will cry.
I don't know how many people observed last week but in the heat of fires, recovery packages, midnight cabinet meetings and the like Wayne Swan betrayed the Australian voters and didn't even have the balls to do it on a slow news day.
Wayne Swan called a parliamentary enquiry into "the choice of emissions trading as the central policy to reduce Australia's carbon pollution".
Now correct me if I am wrong but wasn't this very same Emissions Trading scheme a central pillar of their election campaign. Now I don't know the history of why Wayne Swan did this, hopefully a fellow blogger will tell me he was forced to do it as a concession to get the recovery package through or something along those lines.
If not, this is a digusting turnaround, Kevin Rudd denies they are backing down on their promises. He is saying it is a way to showcase their choice and they are committed to the timeline. do they think we are stupid?
As a casual outside observer, it doesn't take much to work out this enquiry undermines and potentailly delays the system we voted them in to produce.
Let's hope I am wrong and have misinterpreted the whole thing but as my collegue says it sure as hell feels like the little hollow men in the back room are lubricating an exit for the Government to go back on this crucial election promise. Do we really need to submit to a Parliamentary enquiry to have our voices heard when we voiced our opinion by voting for it in the first place?
It is seriously like a bad episode out of the hollow men. If its what is smells like, the history Kevin Rudd so desperately tries to manufacture won't treat this kindly me thinks.

Don't get them confused.
I was quite distressed to read the opposition leader interchanging agrichar and charcoal in his latest Climate Policy release at the weekend.
Although on paper they are very similar, in compostion and method of production, the two have very different histories and should not be confused.
Agrichar or biochar is produced using recyled feed stock. Charcoal is created by using any kind of wood product, and historically has been a major destroyer of forests and to this day is a mjor cause of violence and human rights violations around the world, particularly in the Virunga National Park, Africa.
The continued production of Charcoal using virgin forest cannot in an yway be condoned.
If you want to learn more about agri-char please see this post I wrote a few months ago. and turned into a spotlight post today. CLICK HERE

Louie from Orble holidays. Be back soon.
P.S. Obama is hitting the ground running delivering for the environment. Happy Days.
agrichar
Agrichar is a word we will hopefully hear a lot more of in the future.
Agrichar is a new form of fertilizer being developed from bio-waste that effectively turns soil into a carbon sink whereas soil fertilized with chemical fertilisers is an emitter of Carbon. The potential of this turnaround for the planet could be amazing. Reports on emissions generated from soil differ but they are circa 12% of global emissions

Here is a quick post from my Orble holidays.
The photo's in this link are amazing and a reminder of what we have to lose if we continue to pollute the planet

No-one is expecting too much of an outcome from the Poznan conference but there are some positive noises coming out of it despite concernes that the Global Economic Slowdown will see countries wanting to put out money fires rather than worrying about fighting Climate Change.
The first and most important difference from this year to last year is the attitude of the United States, Obama has embraced aggressive targets and is using a transition to a low carbon economy as a cornerstone of his economic recovery plan. Although it is hard to imagine they will be at the conference in full force before taking power, the lack of huge headwind the Americans were creating in the past should make the conference far smoother and leave the door open for agreement in Copnhagen next year

I think we have been here before but it never hurts. Here are some top tips on how to save money and reduce your carbon footprint at the same time. i have mentioned before reducing consumption and a recession is actually the best thing for global warming (not that I wanted the recession part to happen trust me I am hurting just as much as the next person) but we may as well make the most of it and change our long term behaviour for the better.
Slightly hypocritically these tips are from the Commonwealth bank but I like them because they don't require spending money (much) here's hoping the banks practice what they preach
