8 smart ways to blow your bonus: Education

Ben Franklin once said that if you empty your purse into your head, no one can take it from you, and it is true: Knowledge is the only investment you can make that you can never lose, unless… you choose to give up.
This is even truer today than it was 300 years ago. The workplace has become an extremely competitive place to earn a living in. Young, aggressive women are pouring into the job market, and will give you a run for your money (and job!) before long. The only way to stay ahead is to either sleep with the right people (not very encouraging but certain situations it may be true) or have the right skills… and I know you’re smart enough to want to do the latter instead of the former.
Whether you are an accountant, a lawyer, a computer whiz or an educator, there is always a new skill you can acquire that will increase your appeal to employers. Get trained and certified in a new computer skill, attend a sales and management workshop or just take a crash course in economics and globalisation – something you can add to your knowledge and resume to make you more valuable as an employee than you were before.
A world of caution though: Choose wisely.
Make sure the course is related to your current job; otherwise it is not going to add value to your portfolio. The only education that can apply to virtually any job is sales and marketing training (companies always like people who can sell), but try to find something more specific. And above all, take an interest – this is your education and your money; you get what you put in.
Personal note:
Education is really good and it will be priceless as long as you put it to use. Not to say that you can’t try anything ultimately new, you can, especially you are tired with your current job routine and you are ready to embark a new journey of new possibilities in your career path.

The great money makers in life, barring the crooks, and often those who do make lots of money are that to some extent, depending on definitions, are not known for their education skills.
Just an alternative way of thinking. There are those who will get on in life, whatever, just a challenging idea.
I guess playing by the rules suits many but one can be quite inefficient with qualifications. I'm not too sure too many get away with it, but too many lock themselves into unhappiness playing by the book.
It would be interesting to hear what others have to say.
