41-game losing streak ends for Towson
January 29th 2012 00:39
The Towson Tigers ended their 41-game losing streak with a 66-61 win over UNC-Wilmington on Saturday. The last time Towson won was back on Dec. 29th, 2010 with a victory over LaSalle.
Forwards Marcus Damas and Robert Nwanko led the way for the Tigers. Damas led all scorers with 18 points, and Nwanko added 12 points and 12 rebounds. Donte Morales led UNC-Wilmington with 17 points in the loss. The Seahawks fell to 8-13 on the season.
UNC-Wilmington's cold shooting didn't help out matters at all in the game. The Seahawks made just 38% of their field goals. Connecting on nine of 24 three-point attempts kept the team in the game, though Towson was too much in the end. The Tigers made 48% of their field goal attempts in the victory.
The day has brought a couple of losses to ranked teams. 5th-ranked Kansas lost to Iowa State, 72-64 and 10th-ranked Georgetown fell to Pittsburgh 72-60. 12th-ranked San Diego State lost for the first time in the Mountain West to Colorado State, 77-60. The other ranked team to lose was Mississippi State, though they faced 13th-ranked Florida in a SEC showdown. The Gators were in control for most of the game, in a 12-point win.
Ninth-ranked Murray State, the lone team left in the country without a loss is in action later today as they host Eastern Illinois. The Racers have a 20-0 record, while Eastern Illinois is 9-10 on the year. So don't expect an upset here. Though anything is possible.
