2010 Big East Conference Tournament: Round 1 Preview
March 9th 2010 17:36
USF vs. DePaul: As I write this, South Florida has a 6 point lead on DePaul. It is almost a certainty that an average USF team will easily defeat the worst team in the best conference. Prediction: South Florida (85%) over DePaul
St. John's vs. UConn: This is by far the highlight game of the first round. Connecticut beat St. John's by 20 earlier this season, but UConn lost their last three games of the regular season. Connecticut will continue to rely heavily on Jerome Dyson and their shutdown defense. St. John's has quality wins against Siena, Temple, Louisville, and Notre Dame, but they struggle mightily on offense at times. This one is a tight win for UConn on St. John's home court. Prediction: UConn (55%) over St. John's
Providence vs. Seton Hall: Any game with Providence is sure to be a high-scoring affair. They know how to both put points on the board and allow points to be put on the board. 6-6 Jamine Peterson is the guy to watch for this team that dropped 12 of their final 13 games. Seton Hall is as careful with the ball as any team in college. They are clearly the favorite in this matchup, but they have not had an impressive win on the road since they beat Cornell in late November. Upset alert. Prediction: Seton Hall (60%) over Providence
Cincinnati vs. Rutgers: Rutgers ranks down with DePaul in terms of quality. Cincinnati, however, is a strong rebounding team, who can brag about their wins over Maryland, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, and Connecticut (twice!). They should have no trouble knocking off Rutgers. Prediction: Cincinnati (80%) over Rutgers
