08-09 young breakout players NBA

August 11th 2008 07:55
This year the NBA seemed like it was dominated by young superstars such as Lebron James, Dwight Howard and Chris Paul to name a few. There were also some 2nd and 3rd year players that have shown glimpses of superstardom by taking over the roles of leading men on their respective teams.

This first guy was in the trade for Kevin Garnett and shows alot of the same skills as the Big Ticket. His name is Big Al Jefferson!!! This guy is a beast! he crashes the boards dunks on whoever is in his way with either hand and if he feels like it he'll stay outside and shoot jumpers just as well as any big in the L. In the 07-08 season he showed that he has the game to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves from the front, averaging 21ppg and 11rpg. The only stat he doesnt excel in is assists averaging 1.5 per game. But would you pass the ball if the next best player on the team was Rashad McCants?

Rudy Gay may have an unfortunate name but his skills as a basketball player far outshadow his parents cruel joke. He's a player with around the same physical stature of Lebron james and around the same athletiscism.... sort of. A difference between the two is that Rudy is a better shooter. Despite just finishing his 2nd season Rudy has well and easily become the Grizz's go-to-guy. His weakness is that he doesnt make his team mates better. But with a great young team quickly developing with new players O.J. Mayo, Mike Conley and Jarvis Crittenton i can see rudy passing the ball alot more and maybe becoming an All-Star!

Rajon Rondo is a lanky 2nd year player with great energy and smarts and a unique style. This season was a great improvement on his rookie campaign with Rondo showing he can pass and score solidly but also that he can run a team with his great knowledge of the game. With the the 3 player "justice league" Rajon has still played a big role and with expert advice being handed does from the justice league and Sam Cassell Rajon is set to be soon one of the best PG's in the game.

Al Thornton was NOT in the Rookie-Sophomore game this season despite finishing 4th in the Rookie Of the Year rankings. In the game after all-star weekend he showed the selectors how stupid they are by dropping 39 points and 5 steals on Memphis in the second best scoring game by a rookie last season (behind Kevin Durants 42). He can do it all... defend, rebound and score... dw about the passing. He is crazily athletic and solid and he's a shining light on the clippers future.

These players are the all stars of the future so look out for them.
